Led by the duo behind The Farmhouse Project, the meal series invites foodies to experience unforgettable meals in picturesque locations.
What’s not to love about a good dinner? At the very least, it’s an opportunity to meet up with friends over a meal and a bottle of wine. When done right, it’s an unforgettable evening of laughter, socializing and dining around a kitchen that continues to enchant your thoughts for days to come.
Field & Table organize this kind of dinner.
Spread across the Hudson Valley and the Catskills, Terrain & Table is a unique alfresco dining series designed to showcase the beauty of the area while cultivating community and showcasing the talents of top chefs.
“The idea for Terrain & Table grew out of our love for on-farm entertainment with close friends and family,” say brand owners and hosts Shawn Lang and Kris Prepelica. When it comes to their farm, this would be their home and the inspiration behind their lifestyle brand, The farm project. A one-stop online store for unique and sustainable home items, not to mention recipes galore, The Farmhouse Project is a collective for creatives and manufacturers alike the owners themselves.
With Terrain & Table, the duo extend the local art integrated into The Farmhouse Project to host dinners with a local twist.
“We wanted to create a dinner for our community as we receive at home,” they explain. “When you come to one of our dinners, it’s like being at home with us while we share a meal together at the table.”
Now in its third season, the Terrain & Table dinner series delves into the Hudson Valley region with multiple events spread over the summer and fall. While the original traveling dinner concept has remained focused in the Sullivan County section of the Catskills, where The Farmhouse Project is based, Lang and Prepelica are expanding their footprint to the Hudson Valley and Saratoga Springs for the first time this year.
To kick off, Terrain & Table is moving to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on June 25. After that, he continues the series with a number of scheduled dinners throughout the fall:
- July 10: Lavender Farm Dinner at Winterton Farms, Bloomingburg
- August 21: Dinner at Stone Ridge Orchard, Stone Ridge
- September 18: Buck Brook Alpaca Farm Dinner, Roscoe
- October 2: Old Tavern Farm Cellar Dinner, Saratoga Springs
As for the dinners themselves, they are designed to be more than just a meal, but a real experience.
“Every dinner is a new experience with a unique outdoor destination for every dinner, so every time we toast and break bread with our guests, we’re embracing our surroundings again,” the couple explains. “The locations are selected based on picturesque views or a unique property where not only can our guests share a lovely meal together, but where we can support a small business or local farm.”
Speaking of these small local businesses, they help power every Terrain & Table meal. Working with chefs for each event, Lang and Prepelica source ingredients locally and from local farmers wherever possible. Plus, they extend that “think local” mentality to everything from wine and spirits suppliers to flower farms and even rental companies. Using branded ingredients and products from the Hudson Valley region, they can ensure that every dinner is not only locally sourced, but also guaranteed to be 100% unique.
The ingredients in hand, the duo pass dinner to the chef for the night to prepare it. Notably, each Terrain & Table event highlights a different chef, with whom Lang and Prepelica mostly connect through word of mouth.
“We like to incorporate local chefs, as well as chefs from other parts of New York,” they enthusiastically. “It gives our guests (and chefs) the opportunity to discover new experiences. “
This summer, the Terrain & Table Dinners spotlight the fresh female talents who run New York’s kitchens. While the full lineup of chefs has yet to be announced, Bethel Woods’ dinner features Chef Camille Rodriguez, who has worked at Red Cat, Monument Lane and Pizzeria Sirenetta in Manhattan. Currently, she runs a weekly dinner club, as well as cooking classes and dining events held throughout New York City.
While Terrain & Table is a highlight of The Farmhouse Project’s summer events schedule, it’s not the only thing on Lang and Prepelica’s plates. Coming on Labor Day weekend, their Manufacturers’ Market returns to Callicoon Hills with artisans, workshops, farm-to-table fare, and live music galore. Plus, if that’s not enough, the couple are also planning to potentially open a lifestyle boutique and event space.
