Summer Solstice Night Walk & Dance – Buffalo Rising

After a long period of drought, with little to no socialization allowed, avid cycling and dancing Henry James aims to get people moving on Saturday, June 19. He does this by hosting the Summer Solstice Night Ride & Dance Party – “an all-night celebration that includes a bike ride, a dance party and more in mysterious places.”

“I want to celebrate summer, celebrate life, come back to a new normal,” said James, lead organizer of the festivities. “I hope that throughout this pandemic we have all had the chance to pause and reflect, to be grateful. We have an opportunity to return to the renewed world. There is darkness in the world, and there is also hope. Many of us are moving towards a more compassionate and less self-centered lifestyle. A way of being revolutionary. As Emma Goldman put it so well: “If I don’t know how to dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution”.

The Summer Solstice Night Ride & Dance Party will include a gather for cocktails and mocktails at sunset, before embarking on a bike ride to a ‘secret spot’, which will be announced on the day of the event. Once reunited at this advertised destination, revelers can enjoy a bonfire, while being entertained by a fire show. The evening will also include a “brief collective solstice ritual”, which will set the mood for the evening while “bringing good vibes for summer and beyond”.

But that’s not all. The last bike ride will end at another location to be announced, where cyclists will have the chance to dance the rest of the night, thanks to the tunes being broadcast DJs U-lock, McGroove and Ellen Degenerate from the Satellite of Love collective. This dance segment will continue until sunrise.

Geoff Kowalow, aka DJ Ellen Degenerate, said of the event: “Dusk to dawn dancing is a way for us to celebrate a new beginning for all of us. As the past year and a half has been tumultuous in different ways for each of us, together we can release some of the tension and promote spiritual healing in the same way that people have done for centuries: by dancing to the beat of a drum for hours. We will end the evening by welcoming a new day, a new summer, a new opportunity to prosper.

For anyone wishing to skip the bike ride and go to the dance party, the location will be announced on the evening of the event. More info on Facebook, tickets are on sale through Eventbrite for $ 10. Tickets will be available at the door.
