Severe flash flooding has been reported in many parts of Scotland, with people taking to social media to share scenes of sunken cars, disrupted transport and submerged personal effects.

Amid all the chaotic visuals, a Glasgow resident was left bemused after seeing a ‘mermaid’ swimming in a flooded street on the other side of his house.

Gavin Miller, who lives in Battlefield Gardens in south Glasgow, was just looking at the rainwater that had collected on the street when he saw the mythical creature swimming in the water.

Upon closer inspection, he realized that it was a woman dressed in a chic mermaid costume and making the most of the flooded conditions.

Gavin said the unusual sight left him confused for a few seconds. He took photos of the woman but was unable to leave her top-floor apartment due to the flooding.

The photo quickly went viral and many users shared it on Twitter, along with more videos and photos of Scotland’s flooded roads and neighborhoods.

One user wrote: “I love my neighborhood in Battlefield. Mermaid was out today during the flash floods. Hope the people affected by the flood are okay.”

Authorities have urged residents to be extra careful while driving on the roads. According to reports, the flooding affected train travel across the country.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms.

“Many showers and thunderstorms will subside on Sunday evening, but there is a low risk that heavy rain will persist on Sunday evening in a few places,” a Met spokesperson said.

Before that, a man was seen swimming on a waterlogged street in Moscow in June.

A video posted on Twitter shows a man having a leisurely afternoon swim in the flooded street. He walked for a few seconds in knee-deep water, then jumped up to start swimming.
