Greatest Outfits in Fashion History: Sparkling Phoebe Waller-Bridge in Adam Lippes

There are some really good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones that you desperately try to recreate at home. In “The Greatest Outfits of Fashion History,” the editors of Fashionista revisit their all-time favorite obscenes.

I don’t think I’ve come across a long, boxy monochromatic dress that I didn’t like. It’s not the newest, most innovative, or trendiest idea – we’ve seen it at The Row, Emilia Wickstead, Jil Sander, Balenciaga and Valentino, to name a few – but for me, that’s part of its magic and what draws me in, whatever the season or the track. Its simplicity makes it beautiful and timeless, though perhaps that’s the very reason why it can be a tough sell for celebrities on the red carpet. (A shapeless piece of fabric that ostensibly hides all the curves underneath?) Some have done it over the years, though, and these looks have instantly become my favorites — like Phoebe Waller-Bridge in an excellent Adam Lippes Fall 2018 for premiere of “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

The brand took the loose silhouette of the tank top and lengthened it into a floor-length dress. Then he covered it with neat rows of white glitter all over, which adds some structure to the flowy look. (There were pockets, too!) On the accessory side, Waller-Bridge stuck to a pair of diamond-studded earrings by Bina Goenka. She swept her hair back into a messy bun with side bangs and added color through pops of pink in her makeup.
