Celebrity Style: Why Rihanna Is Such A Maverick In The Fashion World

If there’s one celebrity who could turn her baby bump into a fashion statement, it would be Rihanna.

The singer-songwriter didn’t keep a low profile during her pregnancy, choosing instead to embrace her changing body in the most stylish way.

Pictured in daring outfits – and even appearing on the cover of vogueas well as in a wide fashion spread, Rihanna easily flaunts her belly.

Fans even went on to say that she gave maternity style a new look.

Rihanna isn’t afraid to show off her pregnant figure, posting casual snaps on social media. She’s not ashamed of not being the “perfect size” and appears at numerous red carpet events, making lace, crop tops and bare midriffs the glamorous new uniform for moms-to-be.

Of course, she’s not saying that all expectant mothers should dress this way. This is to point out that women should have freedom of choice when it comes to the clothes they choose.

“I hope we were able to redefine what is considered ‘decent’ for pregnant women,” Rihanna said. vogue in the interview for the May 2022 issue.

“My body is doing amazing things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of it. This time should be celebratory. Because why should you hide your pregnancy?”

That said, pregnant celebrities have been photographed with their bellies exposed in the past.

Demi Moore showed off hers on the cover of vanity lounge in 1991. Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian and MIA have also flaunted their baby bumps in the past.

What is different, however, is that Rihanna’s attempt can be seen as more relevant.

Instead of just fashion shots with carefully put together looks in flattering lighting, she frequently shares candid snaps of herself.

The message? It’s certainly fine to appreciate the fashion styles you love – and no pregnant woman should have to worry about whether or not they look inappropriate.

The queen of fashion

Of course, Rihanna is a force to be reckoned with in fashion. Beyond her musical career, she has successfully conquered the style industry.

Her brand Fenty Beauty has been very popular. While her haute couture clothing line, Fenty, was discontinued in 2021, her lingerie brand, Savage x Fenty, is on the rise.

Rihanna even made her debut on the Forbes annual list of the world’s billionaires this year. Her net worth is estimated at US$1.7 billion (RM7.45 billion), largely from her beauty and fashion businesses.

And if there’s still any doubt, Rihanna regularly makes an appearance at the Met Gala.

She has turned heads year after year in daring outfits.

In 2018, she wore a custom creation by John Galliano, complete with a miter hat. To celebrate China’s influence in fashion in 2015, she walked the red carpet in a yellow Guo Pei design – dubbed one of the most memorable Met Gala moments.

She donned a Rei Kawakubo outfit (from Comme De Garçons) in 2017. It has been described as an architectural marvel, made up of floral fabrics, layered and separated like petals.

Her fans were devastated that she didn’t show up at this year’s event which was held this month. She announced that she was well into her third trimester in March, which could be the reason.

Just a few days ago, Friday, May 20, news broke that she had given birth to a baby boy on May 13.

Nevertheless, Rihanna’s presence at the Met Gala did not fail. The Met Costume Institute honored her as “Queen of the Met Gala” by erecting a CGI statue in her honor.

In one of the museum’s galleries is a projection of her likeness, wearing the same Alaia bodysuit she wore while flaunting her baby bump for the cover of Vogue May.
