X-Files is a science fiction series written by Charles L. Grant, Kevin J. Anderson, Ben Mezrich, Elizabeth Hand, and Max Allan Collins. To some extent, this series mimics a TV show by the same name and the two X-Files films. For fans of the X-Files TV show, these book offers a better opportunity to interact with their favorite characters. The authors give the stories some unique twists, and there is much more for the readers to enjoy. In all the X-Files books, there will be detectives working to resolve a mystery. The processes involved and the monsters they have to deal with make the stories more intriguing.
Goblins
Goblins comes first in the X-Files series. The book stars Scully and Mulder, two FBI agents responsible for investigating unresolved mysteries. In this book, the duo will be investigating the killing of an ex-sergeant. Despite their best efforts, the FBI agents are unable to gather enough details to make sense of the mysterious killing. All they have heard from witnesses makes no sense, and there is a lady who says that a goblin killed the ex-sergeant. Is there any truth to this goblin story? How is it possible that an invisible creature is committing these murders, and is there any way this can be stopped?
Join Mulder and Scully on their journey in search of the truth. Two other officers will assist them in gathering evidence in the small town the ex-sergeant was murdered. As they pour over details in a seedy motel, you cannot help but wonder what details they will discover next. While doing everything possible to unravel the mystery, the officers have to handle everything quietly and quickly. This way, they can ease panic and provide a solution before the public is aware of whatever is going on. As the story unravels, the author provides information on covert military experiments. There is also a nosy reporter and the goblins lady to help spice up the story.
This story comes with all the right ingredients for a good thriller. There are the experienced FBI agents who leave no stone unturned, a mysterious killer on the loose, and enough suspense to keep you turning the pages. This is designed to be a fast read, and the writing is simple and straightforward. The twists and turns towards the end will come as a surprise and send you in search of the next installment in this series. Fort Dix is also quite a setting, and the author has described the town and its motels in such details it will feel like you have been there before. So, will the detectives catch the goblin or at least find the mysterious killer? Read this intriguing book to the end to find out.
If you are a fan of The X-files series, you will love Goblins. It is fun meeting characters you have seen on TV in books and seeing how they worked to solve mysteries and make the world safer. While this book mimics an X-files episode, there are more characters to meet and so much more. This book is also perfect for thriller lovers. The characters are hard to forget, and the storyline so captivating you will want to keep reading until the end. Since the book is just 288, you can gobble it all in a single sitting.
Whirlwind
Whirlwind comes second in the X-files series. In this installment, Mulder and Scully will be hunting for a serial killer with no known pattern. The detective cannot find a link to the mutilated bodies that have been discovered. Among the dead are both males and females, and the killer doesn’t seem to be targeting any age group. So, why are these people being killed? The detectives soon realize that all the victims went through a natural disaster. This makes them revisit the natural disaster, and with the current killings in mind, this event continues to appear unnatural by the day. Is there a chance that the killer caused the disaster in the first place? What was the motivation, and why were the killings happening at this time? These are some of the questions Mulder and Scully will be trying to answer throughout the book.
Just like in Goblin, Whirlwind comes with a simple plot, flawless narrations, and characters that you will grow to love. It is fun following Mulder and Scully as they investigate this mystery while trying to stay out of the public eye. There will be many twists throughout the story, and the eerie experiences are spooky enough to keep you at the edge of your seat. Curious to discover the serial killer? Follow Mulder and Scully through their adventures, and you will get all the answers you seek and much more. If you couldn’t get enough of the X-files shows, you will surely love this book.
The author has done exemplary well in developing Mulder and Scully’s characters. You will not only get to know them better but somehow understand the decisions they make. Following the detectives, as they try to solve the mysteries is always fun, and you cannot help but sympathize with them, considering all they have to endure while searching for the truth. Phoenix, where most of the investigation takes place, comes with its fair share of challenges, and Mulder and Scully have to fight storms and some hellish heat while trying to keep the press and killer off their tracks. However, they handle all of it well and uncover some details that weren’t so obvious before.
Whirlwind is straightforward yet so engaging. It is one of those captivating thrillers that you pick and don’t put it down until you have read it to the other cover. Even if you watched all the TV series episodes, there will be many new things to enjoy. Mulder and Scully are ever fun, and it is amazing how well they work together despite their differences. Just like the first book, Whirlwind is relatively short, and you can enjoy it in one or two sittings.
